\nThe American Numismatic Society in New York is an academic institution of the first caliber, with excellent educational programs and a magnificent collection of numismatic material, much of which is published in the ANS series of the Sylloge Nummorum Graecorum. Another site maintained by the ANS is that of the International Numismatic Commission which contains, amongst numerous other features, a list of member institutions, histories of collections, information regarding antiquities laws in various countries, and obituaries of distinguished numismatists. American Numismatic Association<\/a><\/b>
\nAimed more at the collector of U.S. coins is the American Numismatic Association based in Colorado Springs. The ANA publishes the monthly magazine “The Numismatist” and this does have features and advertisements relating to ancients (including my own bimonthly column “Presents from the Past”). The Celator<\/a><\/b>
\nBy far and away the best magazine for collectors and students of ancient coinage is The Celator, published monthly in Lancaster, PA by Kerry Wetterstrom. Each issue contains a host of interesting articles and information on all aspects of the ancient coin business. Almost every dealer in Greek, Roman, and Byzantine coinage advertises in its pages making it a veritable mine of information for collectors. Coin News<\/a><\/b>
\nFor those who would like to venture overseas in their quest for information you might care to try the site of “Britain’s biggest-selling Coin Magazine” Coin News, published by Token Publishing Ltd. of Honiton, Devon, and edited by John Mussell. Although the emphasis is on English coinage there are regular articles on ancients as well as other series, and this quality publication provides a fascinating insight into the British coin scene.
